Chapter 6
Life in Brindleton Bay has been going well with the exception of a couple of things. Clara has been taking a lot of days off recently in order to spend time with Lady and prepare for advancement in her culinary career. On some of the more hectic days, Clara has been forced to neglect her four-legged companion which hasn't sat well with either of us. And least of all, Lady, of course.
Another concern is one Brent Hecking, her neighbor and husband of Brant Hecking. And, apparently, her stalker. But being the cautious soul, she is, Clara hasn't confronted him about his inappropriate behavior. She's pondering if she should tell his husband, but can't decide. Fortunately, she has been running into Caleb a lot and their friendship has become rather profound. Hanging out together must also be sending some kind of signal to Brent. Only trouble is, when he is calling her late at night and Caleb is not around.

Clara: 'Thank you so much for coming over. I'm sorry to call on you so late, Caleb. You didn't even get to change out of your work clothes.' *Eats her late dinner*
Caleb: 'I don't turn down a friend in need. And you're forgetting that I'm a vampire...I don't need sleep. You go to sleep and I'll talk to Brent if he calls. Okay?'
Clara: *Blushes* 'I did forget. I can't thank you enough.' *Smiles gratefully*

Of course, that night Brent didn't call, but Caleb sat guard all night nevertheless, true to his word.

Lady ate her breakfast after Caleb left.

Lady: (Hmm. It was kind of nice to have Caleb there.)

Clara: 'So, you want me to ask Caleb if he wants to stay over again?'
Lady: (Exactly!)
Clara: '...'

Well, Caleb was a walking mess when he showed up later that day, so Clara fixed him a bit of comfort before he collapsed. He came around after some hours of sleep, and they talked things over from there.
Clara mustered her courage and asked him if he would mind staying again. To her surprise, he agreed. As it turns out, being immortal makes certain things pretty trivial - where you spend a period of time, for instance. So the long the company is fine and the conversations interesting.

Clara: 'Yes, I bet you are ticklish, Caleb.'
Caleb: 'I most certainly am not!'

Caleb: *Laughs out loud*

Caleb: 'I try to keep that a secret, Clara.'
Clara: 'I see.' *Giggles*

When Clara was asleep, Caleb decided to read up on some things. Lady, being thrilled about him staying over again, showed her appreciation by showing off her toys.
