In a remote area of SimNation, years after the clean-up of some military installations, a group of settlers have taken on the task of rebuilding the area with the view to turning it into a vibrant and thriving community. These residents are cut off from all outside communication until they have gotten some basic infrastructure up and running. The government has provided them with some dry goods and basic supplies, but the small community will have to become self-sustaining. Let's meet our founders!

Remy Chastain hails from Bayou Bienvenue, Simsiana. He suggested Bienvenue as the name of the project since bienvenue means welcome. Remy's ideal is a completely egalitarian society where Sims of all kinds are not only tolerated, but warmly welcomed. Remy is a keen outdoorsman and fisherman.

Sylvia Chastain met Remy when she was on a photo assignment in Bayou Bienvenue for the National Simsographic magazine. The two felt the lightning bolts of love at first sight. Recently married, Sylvia and Remy jumped at the chance to raise their family in a rich and caring environment. Sylvia is a nature photographer and artist.

Juan Ramos has never felt terribly comfortable around other people. He has known Remy since college and when Remy suggested that Juan join him in his adventure, Juan was eager to do so. Juan is ready to leave the crowded city behind and pitch in wherever he's needed. His Engineering degree and proficiency with tools will certainly come in handy.

Gloria and Juan have been friends since childhood and sweethearts since high school. Gloria's dream is to have a little garden and a big family. She's determined to do whatever is asked of her to make Bienvenue a success.

Alec Herrmann signed up for the project without knowing any of the other participants. You could say he skipped out on his trust fund and the responsibilities connected to it. His passions are geology, computer science, and robotics, a far cry from the family's shipping business. Alec isn't sure what role in the community he'll take on, but he knows he'll be building robots and honing his tech skills once the settlers have electricity and internet.

Rosa Lynx grew up in Forgotten Hollow. She eventually moved to Strangerville and got a job as a covert operative. Rosa is very eclectic in her interests and is adopting a "wait and see' attitude as to where her most effective role in the community will take her. She secretly hopes that Remy will decide that he doesn't want to be "leader" so that Rosa can spearhead Community organizing herself. Due to her background and childhood advantages, she feels she may be most suited to that role.

The BACC Challenge Rules

There are multiple versions of BACC rulesets for The Sims 4. I will be following Purzell's BACC rules:
*Main Rules: https://ts4-bacc.tumblr.com/tagged/rules/chrono
*Update for Realm of Magic: https://ts4-bacc.tumblr.com/post/187551371960/realm-of-magic-rules-update

Optional rules:
*Starting funds: New families will start with an amount between $8K and $30K, determined at random with a dice roll.
*Community lots: The building cost of community lots will be funded by the community. Each lot type will have a set price. Exact amounts to be determined.
*Community fund: Community contributions come from taxes and household donations. Particulars to be determined.
*Seasons: Each neighborhood will have distinctive weather and seasons. The starting 'hood, Oasis Springs, will cycle from Summer to Fall. I will use MCCC to change the season as needed to keep rounds in sync.
*Aging: Babies, toddlers, children, and teens will have standard Maxis Normal Life Span aging. I have adjusted YA to 30 days, Adults to 50 days, and Elders to 20 days in order to balance out the longer stages of pre-YA Sims. Plus, I just wanted more time with my YA's and adults.
*The footprint of a house may only be changed if the family starts out in a tiny home. In that case, the tiny home may be bulldozed and a new home built on the lot. Otherwise, families that outgrow their current home will have to purchase a larger one, which will free up starter housing for new residents. Basements may be built at will.

Your starting setup looks quite lived-in already. I'm thinking that lot might be Slipshod Mesquite.
Love every one of your founders. Will you be resetting Rosa Lynx's age so she starts out as a Day 1 YA like the other founders?
Also, I love your idea of lengthening the duration of the YA, Adult, and Elder stages.
It's a nice way of enjoying our sims longer, especially since there's no rush for those sims to reach the Adult or Elder stage quickly to move out or eat Ambrosia. :)
(I will be stealing this idea from you!)

Looking forward to seeing how your crew of six starts out!

I saved Rosa as a brand-new teen and then aged her up in CAS. I didn't want her to be terribly skilled up. Yes, that is Slipshod Mesquite, my favorite lot in Oasis Springs. Now I need to decide how long they will all live there. I'm thinking possibly a week.

BIENVENUE BACC  WEEK 1: ROUND 0

Shortly after arriving at their camp, the settlers sat down to assess their resources and decide what roles different members of the group might take on.

Remy: I’ll start fishing immediately. The supplies that were left for us will get us through a couple of weeks, but we’re going to have to feed ourselves after that. Juan, you said that Gloria is a pretty good gardener, didn’t you? I think a couple of us should help her to get a basic garden going. When I was out scouting, I saw some tomatoes and lemons growing nearby, so those plants seem to do well in this environment. I’ll keep my eye out for other local plants when I go out fishing.

Rosa: We’re going to need someone to start working on infrastructure. I think Juan and Alec are probably the best candidates for that job. For now, Sylvia and I can just pitch in wherever we’re needed.

Rosa and Gloria got started on the garden. Gloria thought it would be a good idea to plant sage since it’s a hardy and year-round crop.

Gloria: If we plant a good bit of sage I can then graft more delicate seasonal plants to it and increase the variety of our yields easily enough.

While they were busy with the garden, they heard a sudden loud scream.

Rosa was the first to act. She quickly got the fire under control.

Rosa: Oh, my goodness, Juan! Are you okay?

Juan: The only thing hurt is my pride. I’m sorry. I just wanted to cook lunch for everyone.

Rosa: Well, it was a nice idea, but maybe someone else should be in charge of the cooking?

While Juan was showering, Gloria got his clothes washed up.

Gloria: Silly man. He should have known better than to attempt cooking of all things! Juan plus an open flame is a recipe for disaster.

That night the settlers decided to have a little dinner party of sorts to celebrate the fact that a disaster was averted and to bring their first day to a happy close.

Gloria did the cooking. Although veggie burgers made from a packaged mix wasn’t exactly the most exciting dinner party fare, the group felt grateful for what they had and the party ended with everyone determined to give the project their all.

The next day, Remy approached Rosa with a plan.

Remy: Rosa, you acted so quickly and calmly yesterday that Juan and I both think you’re just the person to organize trade and services once we get electricity and communications up and running. We’ll need a mayor of sorts to keep things running smoothly. What do you think?

Rosa: Wow. I’m flattered that you have that kind of confidence in me.  I’ll do my best not to let anyone down.

Remy: Great! I’ll run the idea past the others and if there are no objections, we’ll go forward with you as our, um, Community Organizer. That sounds better than mayor, don’t you think? Anyway, I’m more suited to be outside in the fresh air. I’d be miserable having to be tied to a phone or a computer or having to wear a suit to meetings. That REALLY isn’t me!

Over the next few days, the settlers worked hard. They had a garden, Remy was catching fish and harvesting local plants, and Juan and Alec were getting closer to being able to provide everyone with electricity.

While searching the shed for wiring, Alec came across a dusty box with some old costumes inside. The group decided to have a costume party. It became their little tradition to inject a bit of purely frivolous fun into their lives every few days to let off some steam and unwind after all of their hard work.

Remy: Sylvia and I were thinking we’d like to set up camp a bit down the road. We’ve loved being here with everyone, but we’re anxious to get our own garden started and settle into our lives together here.

Rosa: That sounds like a good plan. We all need to start thinking about our own places. I think Juan and Gloria should stay here since Gloria’s garden seems to be thriving. This is the biggest plot of land, but I don’t mind letting them have it. That’s definitely what’s best for our food supply.

A few days later, another couple started to think maybe they were ready for some privacy, too. After all, they did have to do their part to increase the community’s population.

Yay, I'm glad to see Rosa together with Alec Herrmann. Among your Gallery offerings, I noticed that you created Alec several years ago.

I agree with you that the Mayor title doesn't make sense, considering that the office will eventually look after all of Bienvenue, not just Oasis Springs.
Great idea about grafting plants to all-weather sage!
Has grafting been fixed post-Seasons? It still seems hard to get rare plants through grafting, at least for my sims.
One household has two lily plants and one snapdragon plant, all three have been grafted for orchids but have only produced snapdragons & lilies for the past few days.

Can't wait to see everyone moved out and starting their own households!

Alec was originally a game-generated DJ. I've played him in a couple of different saves and he's definitely a favorite of mine. He is so NOT a DJ!

I've had no problems with grafting since the last patch. Sometimes it does take a few days, but eventually they do seem to produce the desired plant. Of course, I try to graft numerous plants to increase my chances and I graft both ways (lily to snapdragon and snapdragon to lily). I like to graft 8 of each plant at a time. I got orchids on my first time checking Patchy for seeds this time. I was shocked.

Rosa is slowly working up to the title of supreme dictator.  She has my vote  ;=)
Some great progress there and it's fun seeing the dynamics of how everyone is finding their roles and coming together as a community...with Rosa as their magnanimous overlord of awesomeness.

Oh, you graft 8 plants at a time to get a specific grated result! I see I have been leaving too much to chance!
Wonderful luck there with Patchy's orchid!

Thank you for letting me know that Schools is an optional rule.
And here I thought I was being clever by moving in two toddlers. Oh well, I'd wanted to play my Sharebear renegades as toddlers anyway. Kinda.
I guess I won't add an additional rule to unlock Scouts.
What are your plans, if any, for Drama Club? I've never had a kid finish that.
