Haha, I love Vlad V and his longer, wavy locks!  Please tell me he's no longer bald in his dark form!
Vlad seems to be one of your favorite premade sims. ;p

How perfect, a female Alhvah heir and a male Straud heir!
Can't wait until their toddler birthdays to find what their life states are!
Will the Alvahs need to keep trying for baby until they produce a merboo?

I am rather fond of Vlad. His bone white skin didn't make it into my last dynasty, but maybe it will this time! I'm playing with all eight Occult States; no doubling up. So, yes, the Alvahs will need to produce a merboo. Maybe I'll even shoot for two! ;)

If you have a favorite Loariio/Kala child but they're not a merkid, do your rules allow the kid to be defanged (Vampire Cure) then consume mermadic kelp?
Would said kelp have to be found and not bought with satisfaction points?

At the moment, the rules state that the heir must be *born* with the desired Occult State. However, I'm totally up for re-thinking that. I want this challenge to have a lot of flexibility so players can have as much fun with it as possible. One of the goals of this challenge is to play with Occult States as thoroughly as possible, which is why I went with being each Occult State for as long as possible, ie since birth. However, since Occult State abilities don't manifest until they're Teens (assuming that's correct, not 100% on that), I think a provision to become the next Occult State within, say, the first week as a Teen, would still stay within the spirit of the challenge. Then, on top of that, the next thought would be, if they don't have to be born with the desired Occult State, then adopted children should be eligible to become heirs as well, which I like because it's more inclusive of diverse family arrangements. Adopted kids are just as much a part of the family as ones born into it, and that should be acknowledged. So, maybe I'll update that rule - there's already an "updates and changes" post following the rules. Anyway, any thoughts/suggestions on these sorts of things are welcome, and thank you for your question!

Thank you for giving my questions so much thought.
I was thinking of a scenario where a couple might have four kids and still not end up with an heir.
In your case, for example, Loario/Kala and Vlad/Harlow each have a 50/50 chance of a vampboo.

And, yes, you're correct about occult powers not manifesting until the teen birthday.
My twin kids just aged up to teens and each got the RoM music with the announcement that they've become spellcasters, though that's been apparent since birth.
(After I "sent alone" Koa to the hospital to give birth, the hospital delivered twins in spellcaster bassinets.  Btw, too bad we don't have merboo bassinets.)

Yes, when your sim goes into labor, if you send them alone to the hospital, you can tell the nooboo's occult state at birth (except in the case of merboos).
Alienboos, vampboos, casterboos, and wolfboos have special bassinets.  Merboos will default to the usual bassinet.

I'm not 100% sure when Joining our sim at the hospital, but I vaguely recall the nooboo showing up at home in a normal bassinet.
Granny Lawlor, do you remember?
I've only noticed the (free) identifying bassinets after I "Send alone" to hospital.
Haha, Rhoxi's next pregnant sim will test this for us *winks

Well - I didn't actually know that alien-boos got special bassinets as I'm also a pre-planner. (IRL sometimes it's a blessing and sometimes a curse, lol!)
My only other occults are the merpeeps so I only know about the other special bassinets from reading simlit, especially when it's game-driven and the authors share their strategies (thank you, both)
I can't send my pregnant Apocalypse sims to hospital for a while so can't test it any time soon.

Chapter Four: Double Vampire Boos - 9/8/22

Chapter Four: Double Vampire Boos

Last time our ladies had back-to-back deliveries, a girl and a boy.

Aw, so cute ... Okay, there's the baby picture let's age 'em up!

First we have Kalandria, named for her mother Kalamainu'u.

And then we have Willy, named because a certain watcher loves alliteration a little too much and could not resist the lure of naming the child Willy Wilson (please, do not do this with actual children).

Let's take a closer look, shall we?

No idea where Kalandria got the blonde hair, seeing as both her parents have black.

And as for Willy, well, of course I had to switch his hair color. Check out that pale skin, grey eyes, and oh so adorable freckles!

Now for some toddler spam!

Harlow hugs her son Willy while Kala, doting mother, beats the stuffing out of the children's big foot stuffy. (It's that mean trait!)

She (along with Vlad) also regularly smashes the dollhouse and has to repair it.

Learning to talk.

Bedtime stories.

And bonding together.

Unfortunately, both lovely tykes are vampires, and a certain watcher decides it's time for more.

She's eating for two, and they're both delighted!

But with four adults, two toddlers, one pregnancy, and a cat, there's simply not enough room for Vlad and Harlow to try again.

An executive decision is made: the tots will be aged up to teen and move in with another family. While Willy is still eligible to be re-invited to the house and cured of vampirism to be a spouse, moving out Kalandria means she is no longer eligible to become heir.

A set of double birthdays.

And then we turn right around with more candles on the same cakes to do it again.

Here they are looking pretty much grown up.

Kalandria's definitely interesting looking, but I think I could have really made it work.

As for Willy, well, no work needed there! Certainly a strong spouse contender.

In other news, handsome Vlad progresses along nicely in his career as a mixologist.

Ghost Vlad comes back to haunt his favorite instrument.

Loario scares his wife with a "pretend to bite" interaction on prank day. (Thankfully she found this hilarious).

Loario sits for some portraiture.

And even does some painting of his own.

Kalandria was moved out because under the original rules an heir needed to be *born* into the next Occult State. This rule has subsequently been changed. Under the new rule, adopted children are eligible to become heirs, and any designated heir must become the desired Occult State within the first week after becoming a teen.

How funny that both toddlershad hair at odds with their parents. Willy is indeed cute. Fingers crossed for a merboo this time!

Willy is simply gorgeous! Is he a vampire?
If yes, I'm surprised you didn't keep him until he was a 100% daywalker before moving him out.
If the rules now allow adopting heirs, what about wishing for a ghost child at the Wishing Well?  Or can only nooboos be adopted?

Honestly, I feel like you have too much vampire DNA in your first generation.  ;p

Willy is indeed a vampire. That's a good point; let's hope the sun doesn't get him! Of course, I could always move him back in ...  And yes, great point about the wishing well! Thank you! That should definitely be added in. Plus, with allowing adopted heirs, the ghost and simbot Occult States don't need to be last. I will update the rule page.

Whatever you do with Willy, don't forget to save him to your Library.  He's just too gorgeous to be forever in a spare role. ;p

It's a hard choice: trying to adopt a ghost child who is not related by blood, or killing off a biological heir.
