How do you listen to the educator in the town square?

I can chat up a storm with her but I've tried clicking everywhere and no way to just listen.  My quest is tanking.

I clicked on her when she was up her her little podium/soap box thing and the option was available.

I can't remember what time of day I caught her but I think it was mid-morning. She had a group of children listening very attentively (cue sarcasm) to her. I think I had my hero introduce herself and then stand back. The educator got up on her little box thing and my hero listened.

I have completed this quest several times before the update and never had a problem 'listening' to the teacher.  

Tonight I tried that quest and for three Sim days my Monarch was never given the option to 'listen'.  I exited the game without saving and tried it again and I still was not given the option.  I'm not sure if the update messed something up or not, but I am going to try again tomorrow.  

lilygirl, have you been able to 'listen' since the update?  

     EDIT:  I tried this quest two more times now and once in a new ambition but still can't 'listen' to the teacher .

I never tried this quest before the patch, but I had the same problem recently.  I figured he would get on the soapbox sooner or later, but after days of waiting he never did.  I ended up having to abandon the quest.

I believe this has been broken in the patch.

I played this quest the other night and could not listen to the educator.  I have played it many times before with no problems.

Well, this is stupid.  My poor king is just standing around like an idiot, waiting for that woman to stand on her box.  We've talked to her, and all of those rotten little kids, we've drawn about a gazillion buckets of water.  I even put a training dummy in the Market's yard so my King could practice while he waits for this teacher to do SOMETHING!  What's the point of a quest if it's undoable?  My rating is falling, and I don't know what to do!

HELP!!  Please.

Phyrie. It is broken.   It will not work until EA fixes whatever they broke in the patch.  You will just have to withdraw from the quest or work out how to cancel the tasks relating to listening to her. You will need to enable testing cheats to do that.

Thanks, Figwit.  I finally just cancelled the quest.  Is this kind of thing common?  I've played computer games for many years, and although new games are sometimes buggy, and need patching, the only kinds of trouble I've had is crashing and or starting the game.  I've never, ever had a game that is just, well, broken in the middle like this!  I wonder how long it will take them to fix it?

I am disappointed in the bugs introduced with this patch.  I had an almost perfect game before and now I feel I can't completely trust it.  The game is still a lot of fun and it is possible to work around the bugs but I do hope they fix them soon.

This problem isn't only with this quest. It's the same with any other quest that you have to "listen" to. I was playing the quest A wondering prophet and I couldn't listen to the prophet. I hope EA fixes this soon.

If you are willing to use cheats, could you add the educator (or teacher, or whoever you have to listen to) to your current 'family' using cheats, then tell them to get up on the podium, and then listen to them? Then once you've done that, remove them from the family again. If anyone currently has a quest like this, let us know if that works? otherwise I'll update if I get to a quest like that.
