Apology
« on: July 20, 2011, 10:33:24 PM »
I will never again do something with this forum that puts it down so long without having some way to notify you all (who are interested). My solution will be to speak as myself to the guide's Facebook account. I got a lot of emails when my mail server came up. If you want to be able to see this stuff, and even if you don't use it much, you can use Facebook to log in and see. Otherwise, if you see this place down know that I am working hard to get it working again. There are plenty of people with a direct line to me who can have me within 5-10 mins no matter where I am so I will always know if something's up.  Edit: Within a few hours

In short I apologize but in the future will use Facebook to notify you all if I can. The quick move was inconsiderate given the number of people who expressed concern about its status.

Thank you all for caring so much :)

Can I ask what the fb page is please? I was worried when the site went down, this is the first time I've been able to get in for 3 days, I figured you were working on it, but did get worried when it was down for long.

EDIT I just read the gallery thread, so I know now why it was down.

Will you still post about such things here? I don`t have a Facebook account.

Carl, no need to apologize.  You've done everything within your power to minimize inconvenience.  You had to act quickly and, in my opinion, you did great!

I have to echo Carlos's request, since I am another who doesn't have a Facebook account.

If it's down because of an unforeseen circumstance, it wouldn't do Carl a lot of good to post about it here.  While I'm not 100% sure, I do think you can view FB pages like this without having an account.  I know I've looked at the EA FB page without being logged in before.  I have an account, but I rarely ever use it myself.

What Carl's saying is that he'll use Facebook when the Forum is down to let everyone know what's going on.  If the Forum is down, nobody would be able to see a message here anyway.  Here's the thread about our Facebook page.

What I meant was that could he still give pre-emptive warning here for intentional and anticipated downtime.

I'm sure he will.  Facebook won't replace the warnings he normally puts here.

Sadly, whatever happened when you upgraded has locked me out at work with a stern warning about 'games' sites.  Nothing you can do probably - just one of those things.  It just means I might have to actually do some work instead of sneaking peeks here during the day. ;)

Sorry I forgot to respond here, Pam is right in her responses. As to the locked out at work dilemma, wow, now that is a strange consequence. It is probably due to the forum being moved back in with the guide site. Reuniting them when a new server came into play was natural. They were separated out for performance reasons in the past.

Yes, that would be it.  The guide was always blocked at work.
