Screen Turns White

I tried installing Sims 3 on a new laptop as well as the EPs. I did not restart the computer after installing. I went straight to the launcher and loaded the game. After choosing the town, the screen turned white. What seems to be the problem?

Were you trying to load a saved game or creating a new game?
