Sims 3 game suddenly extremely slow *Fixed!!*
« on: June 14, 2016, 04:37:39 PM »
Good evening everyone,

I wanted to play a bit tonight (first time in a month), and opened up my sims 3 game. It loaded as it usually does, as i have lots of mods, but it is usually very fluid and normal once in-game.
However, today it was extremely laggy and slow from the moment on i started playing. As i had cleared my cache files, as well as my dcbackup files, i was really surprised. I usually am able to play with all the graphic options on high and even advanced rendering and smoother animation without any problem, and i have more than engough ram to stand the game's memory hunger (16gb of RAM).
I already tried to run it with all the settings to low, but did not see any notable change, and even moved my mods folder (i do not have any downloads through the launcher), but the game itself did not change, it is still laggy.
I also tried to reset everything in my town through mastercontroller and errortrap but still nothing.
the last time i've played it was extemely fluid, and i have not installed anything new for a few months now.

Has anybody here had the same experience and found anything?
I'm so desperate  :(

For me it's usually something in my sim's inventory slowing things down.

Thank you SO much for posting what you have already tried.

So, let's see what might help further. Have you tried any of the following:

1. If you're playing the Origin/Digital version of Sims 3 Try disabling Origin In-Game

Open up Origin, Go to My Games. Right click on the game, and select Game Properties, check the box to disable Origin in game, for this game.

Or you can disable it for all games by:

Go to the Origin menu > Application Settings > Origin In Game and make sure it's un-checked.

2. Look over and get rid of the extra stuff your sim family members may not need anymore in their personal inventories as well as the family inventory. As stuffed inventories cause lag, that eventually leads to crashing.

Also, having a large house with a lot of landscaping and a lot of furniture and decor will cause lag after awhile.

3. Evict Household and move them back in?

4. Some towns/worlds can cause lag, depending on how large they are. Save the family/house and try a new game as a test to see if placing them to a different town might help.

Try a factory reset. This is one of the first things I do when my game starts acting odd.

Isnt it faster that way?  :)

I actually tried one last thing today before trying your suggestions, i just moved my entire sims 3 folder in My Documents and launched a new game to create this folder again, and then added my old folders. It worked!
However, i'll keep your suggestions in case my games lags and freezes again.
Thank you so much for the quick answer as well!
Happy Simming everyone  ;D

I'm happy to hear the factory reset worked for you. That's my go-to when things start acting odd. :)
