Invisible Newspaper Dirtying Surroundings
« on: July 09, 2017, 05:50:15 PM »
There's an invisible chewed newspaper on my house's front porch. The only reason I know it is there is that it occasionally briefly appears when I exit the build menu. Sims can't clean it, I can't destroy it in build mode, and the Testing Cheats treat it as an unwalkable floor tile. It seems to be giving my sims the dirty surroundings moodlet no matter where they are in the house, although it's possible that's from another source. Any ideas on how I could get rid of it?

Update: there are actually two newspapers, one on the porch and one in the kitchen. The kitchen is contiguous with the living room, and that takes up most of the house. So, whenever sims are in the main room or outside, they have a negative moodlet for dirty surroundings.

I have had this happen in my game, but can't remember how I fixed it at the moment.

Have you tried resetting the town or evicting household and then go into the unoccupied house and then trying to deleted it via build mode?

I think if you put the cheat moveobjects on and then sledge hammer or try to grab the item from where you think it is then delete should fix it. I fixed an invisible trash pile that way.

Neither of these fixes worked, unfortunately, but during my attempts to get the mouse over the newspaper I was able to get the it to appear by zooming in on it (I'm almost positive I had already tried that and it didn't do anything), and then I could just tell my sim to clean it up. Thanks for the help though.

For future reference, another thing someone could try is hiring the maid service, even just temporarily. I've had maids clean up invisible pizza boxes and other messes I couldn't click on.

One of the best ways to clear up invisible dirty items if to use nraas mod Master Controller and use the Repair Everything or Reset Lot interactions, if you don't mind using mods of course.
