Sims 3 Suddenly Extremely Slow on a High-End PC
« on: May 27, 2018, 05:42:13 PM »
Ok, so I used to be able to play this game pretty smoothly and I loved it. Then all of a suddenly, the game has just been extremely SLOW. Not even just a little bit, I get 5FPS when I used to get 60fps and above EASILY. My PC is actually pretty decent, too!

I have a 3.4GHz Intel Xeon processor. 16GB of ram. 500GB of hard drive space and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 graphics card. My game used to work beautifully on high settings and now it's slow, laggy and unplayable.

I tried removing all my CC and it solved nothing. I tried clearing space on my computer and it solved nothing. I tried deleting the sims cache files along with the backups that we can delete and it still solved nothing. Can I get a fix to this, please?

Check to see if there are any programs running in the background via Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) that are taking up an unusual amount of processing power.

Also check that your hard drive isn't always running. If it's always running it will slow things down. This can be checked with Task Manager also.

I did all of these and still no improvement. It used to run really smoothly and suddenly it's unplayable.

When my game becomes slow to load and play I save my family and their house. Start with a fresh folder and new game. I'm assuming you've already tried that?

Try a factory reset. This is one of the first things I do when my game starts acting odd.

How To: Save a Household

Create a New Game

If you don't want to do that, you could try:

1. Look over and get rid of the extra stuff your sim family members may not need anymore in their personal inventories as well as the family inventory. As stuffed inventories cause lag, that eventually leads to crashing.

Also, having a large house with a lot of landscaping and a lot of furniture and decor will cause lag after awhile.

2. Evict Household and move them back in?

3. Some towns/worlds can cause lag, depending on how large they are. Save the family/house and try a new game as a test to see if placing them to a different town might help.

Crinrict has some troubleshooting tips that might help -
