I have been searching for 2 days on detailed instructions on how and what file to put custom homes and lots?

Depending on what size lot you're trying to add, you may need to add a mod to the game.

However, if you're trying to replace a lot that's already in game, you can do that with the in-game World Editor. See video linked below for a tutorial.
