One of my sims (Darline Stratssand) is pregnant, and I made her eat some watermelons but I decided a sim hour later that I wanted a boy. Is it too late to change? Shes not got a belly yet...

It not too late to change the gender until Birth. What was said that the Gender is locked when the Mother spins into Maternity Clothes is false. I have always eaten the Apples and Watermelons after the spin when the Mother is showing and always get the Gender I wanted. If you want to change the Gender I recommend Saving now then eating 10 or more apples just to be sure.

I would never recommend as few as 3 fruits.  To really guarantee the gender, I say 10 pieces of fruit at least.

Me too. Before joining this forum, I was sure that more than three fruits would make it twins, even more - triplets. Then I was corrected, and eating ten fruits thereafter has never generated twins/triplets. ;)

Hehe.. Well, I ate the ten watermelons to get my girl. Renesmee is now a toddler. :p (and yes, I named the girl after Edward and Bella's daughter in Twilight and also, yes, I plan to name my real first daughter that, too. :p forgive me. I just like the name :D )

Mother (Lori)'s lifetime wish is the surrounded by family one, so I'm aiming for at least five kids. Can anyone recommend when I should get the couple to try for another baby? I know I can do it at any time, but I was wondering what would be the best time? I was thinking round about when Renesmee becomes a child? And will I have twins if only the mother has the fertility treatment lifetime happiness award?

Only you can know when it's time for another baby. If you think it's time, go for it. And sometimes you get twins or triplets when just one parent has the fertility treatment. It's more common if both have it but it can happen with only one. I've even had twins when neither of them have it.

I can say with great honesty and certainty that whenever I've influenced the gender of a baby, I have used no more than three fruits. It's only failed once.
My Sims Try for Baby often (Not Baby Boomer type often though ;)), and I have definitely influenced the gender with three fruits.

I'm not saying you can't influence the gender with only three fruits.  But even that one failure you had is enough reason to recommend more than three fruits to guarantee the gender you want.  There's a current Dynasty story where the member wanted all females in the family and only gave about three watermelon to one of the mothers and ended up with a boy.  Also, in the case of the Immortal Dynasty Challenge, it's mandatory that the 7th generation be female and even the slightest chance of having a boy must be avoided.  To those players, I'm not going to recommend three watermelon because there's a decent chance it won't work.  I will always recommend eating 10 of the necessary fruits to get the gender you want.

And this is still off topic because determining gender doesn't really have anything to do with how to tell if your Sim is pregnant.

You can tell if the "try for baby" option worked when you here jingling after your sims whoohoo'd. Sometimes the jingling bugs out though (doesn't occur), and you can miss the pregnancy. Quite soon after your sims succesfully "tried for baby", however, you can usually already tell if she's pregnant. She'll be nauseous, throw up, and sometimes even has back pain. A day after your sims tried for baby (and it was succesful), your sim will start to show and get a belly. At that point the baby's sex is locked.

About the fruit: if you're not sure, just eat it. The window where you can determine the baby's sex with fruit is quite small, that first day. By the time your sims start to show it is too late. This apparently isn't true, it has always been true for me but perhaps that was just bad luck. It appears that you can change the babies sex almost until the last momnet. If you really want a baby of a specific sex but you're not sure if your sims is actually pregnant you should always just go for the fruit. No harm no foul if she turns out not to be pregnant and if she is you're certain to get a boy/girl.

I hope this answered your questions.
I think that the back pain moodlet is appeared only when the pregnancy is visible.

Hmm.. my sim started having back pains the morning after she tried for baby. I didn't even know she was pregnant then, and she certainly wasn't showing. :/

I think it's entirely possible that I have seen the back pain moodlet appear before a sim starts showing, but I don't think it happens regularly enough to be considered a clear indicator.

I think I've seen it once or twice as well, but it doesn't show up nearly enough to be a clear sign.

I'm certain I've had the back pain moodlet appear before my Sim started to show, but I don't see it every pregnancy. Coïncidentally I saw it the last Sim pregnancy I had - a day or so before I posted that reply - that's why I remembered it so well :P

The first sign I know my Sim is expecting is of course the "Rock-A-Bye Baby" jingle after WooHooing. The other early signs were the nausea and vomiting. For one of my Sims, she started to have weird cravings early on. Her favorite food is Spaghetti and she craved it with ice cream, then with peanut butter sandwiches. She had a moment once where she paused and smiled, patted or rubbed her tummy and then I saw the bubble above her head with a pair of baby booties and then the baby bottle. It all happened so fast that I couldn't think fast enough to hit the camera button. I was too caught up in the moment, lol. It was really a cute moment, it made me stop and appreciate the realism in the game. I'm a mommy so I get all sappy with these kind of things, lol.

Sometimes the "rock-a-bye baby" chime doesn't play. However, in that case, the pregnancy symptoms will start two hours later.

I would like to note, that every pregnancy is different, just like real life. Some Sims will have extreme cravings, others won't have cravings at all. Sometimes, a Sim won't even want to read a pregnancy book or buy baby supplies. It all depends on the Sim.
