The Royal Flush: Sunset Valley's Handyman Championships

The Royal Flush: Sunset Valley’s Handyman Championships

Goal
Sunset Valley is falling apart and to set things right the mayor has decided to host a contest to see which local handyman company can upgrade as much of the town in two weeks as possible. As owner of one of the local handyman companies, you are in the running — the mayor is going to pay all companies $1000 simoleans for every upgrade they do, and he’ll also award $3000 simoleans for every different type of upgrade performed. The company awarded the most money after two weeks wins the contest.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create 1 Young Adult Sim (no pets).
  • You may not add to the household.
  • Edit Town is completely off limits for this event.
  • You must play in Sunset Valley.
  • Upgrades on autoplaced lots are fine, but no buying real estate (homes, buildings, or property).
  • You may not buy more than one type of any upgradeable object via any means...Buy Mode or some other way — i.e. you cannot buy two stoves.
  • You may only upgrade any particular object once.
  • No Genie Lifestate or Genie Lamp.
  • You can never leave Sunset Valley: no vacation, University, or future travel.
  • No Drinking or Throwing Elixirs.
  • This challenge ends at Week 2, Day 7, 11:59 PM.
Scoring
Objects Upgraded. Open up your Sim’s Handiness Skill Journal and take a look at the first section called Statistics. Note the Objects Upgraded stat. The mayor is paying your company $1000 simoleans per object upgraded. If by chance you upgrade an item and it does not add to the Objects Upgraded stat then you still only can count what the Journal lists.

Unique Upgrades Completed. Right below the Objects Upgraded statistic is the Unique Upgrades Completed stat. Award your company $3000 simoleans per Unique Upgrades Completed. If by chance you upgrade an item and the Unique Upgrade does not register then you still only count what the Journal lists.

Example: You get to Week 2, Day 7, 11:59 PM and you pause your game. The Statistics section of your Handiness Skill Journal has Objects Upgraded: 56, and Unique Upgrades Completed: 21.

56 X 1000 = 56,000

21 X 3000 = 63,000

Total = 56,000 + 63,000 = 119,000

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM the team (Metro, ratchie, Nutella, and Blackrosea) for clarifications. Thanks.

So the money is collected at the end of the challenge? May a sim have any career?

The "money" talked about is just points, not actual money. :P I assume a career is fine, since it doesn't say otherwise.

Right. The money is just a set up for the scoring component. And if you opt for a career, that is fine since careers are not in the ban list.

In regards to this rule - You may only upgrade any particular object once, does that mean I can upgrade as many toilets as I want for example as long as I only do one type of upgrade on each toilet? I do understand that I cannot buy more than one toilet for my homelot.

No. Let's say you walk into a building and there are 6 toilets you can upgrade. You can upgrade all 6 with the self cleaning upgrade if you wish, but you can only upgrade each toilet one time.

Post a score. :P You don't need to tell us you're going to participate -- just do it (when the challenge begins!) and post a score when you've finished.

Okay, the rules have been clarified to:

Objects Upgraded. Open up your Sim’s Handiness Skill Journal and note the Objects Upgraded stat. The mayor is paying your company $1000 simoleans per object upgraded. If by chance you upgrade an item and it does not add to the Objects Upgraded stat then you still only can count what the Journal lists.

Upgrades Completed. Below the Skill Challenges section in the Handiness Skill Journal is the Upgrades Completed section. Count the number of different upgrades in the list and award your company $2000 simoleans per upgrade. If by chance you upgrade an item and the unique type of upgrade is not added to the list then you still only count what the Journal lists.

Okay so this is the first time I will ever be doing a challenge so I have a question. When you say this challenge will end on week 2 day 7 do mean it end at 11:59pm January 14th, we can only spend two sim weeks doing this challenge?

When we say a challenge ends on week 2 day 7 its the ingame clock you have to look at, when this clock hits week 2 day 7 then you challenge file has ended and you count up your score.

The dates January the 1th and January the 15th are the real-life days you can use to play your ingame time on, if you do it all in one day, or decided to spread it over all days is totally up to you.

Okay, nit picky question: For the only one type of object rule, does this apply to non-upgradeable items like chairs and lights? Or will I have to buy a different type of chair and light....

My original intent for the one type of object rule was for upgradeable objects. Team are you okay with players buying more than one of non upgradeable objects?

I think buying only one of upgradeable items is ok, so people can buy more than one lamp, chair, etc.

I did a test run, and it didn't even cross my mind not to buy more than one non- upgradable object. Thinking back, the only duplicate was a light. Either way works for me.

After discussing it with the challenge team, upgradable has been added to the following ruleset.

  • You may not buy more than one type of any upgradeable object in Buy Mode — i.e. you cannot buy two stoves.

I know it says only one of each kind upgradeable item, but what about sinks? Can you have one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom, or only one..?
