Where can I locate all Gems Metals or insects?

Been playing on 360 for a couple weeks and can't seem to locate all Gems Metals or insects...any ideas where the rare ones pop up or is it all random?

There are set locations where you can find these items, just like on the PC version. We haven't played the game in such a long time that we don't know where the locations are anymore.

I remember that pink diamonds occasionally show up at the public pool. It's been so long that I don't remember much else. Keep checking around the science building, criminal warehouse, and graveyard. I seem to remember having my sim frequent those places for collectibles.

I haven't played on the console for 5 years, but I agree, the pink diamond shows up just outside the fence at the public pool. I seem to recall rare insects along the pathway up to the waterfall.
