Power of 10 - 10.50: Starting the Last Generation (12 Feb update)

10.50: Starting the Last Generation

Wednesday, Week 54

It's me again, Elwyn, the tenth and final heir of this dynasty.
Cristal's now living with Mocha and me on our empty lot, Cliff Side Crest.

Since she's non-committal, I let her make each and every romantic move.

Cristal: Are you sure your parents don't mind us in their bedroom?
Elwyn: Did we want our first time to be in a bush or a tent?
Cristal: …
Elwyn: I didn't think so.

Cristal: I'm so happy you said yes to my proposal, Elwyn!
Elwyn: I'm just glad you asked.
Cristal: Yeah, if you'd have asked me, I would probably have rejected you.

I waited in front of the wedding arch for hours for my non-commital bride.
(My robotic arm must have clicked on the wedding arch 6-8 times!)
How outrageous that I'm not allowed to wear a tux on my wedding day!

Since caterers will now make cakes for wedding receptions, I hired my brother as our caterer.
When I "cut the first piece," everyone immediately began singing the birthday song.

Oh well! And we got a gold medal without having to flirt or kiss, either. Weird.
I'm earnestly hoping that this won't become the "glitched generation."

After our reception, we go on a date to Shimuzu.
The hostess there gets bent out of shape about the dress code.

It's not my fault my robotic arm is glitched!

Cristal: I don't think it's your robotic arm that's got the hostess so upset, darling.
She's bothered by you walking around the restaurant in your briefs. Everyone's staring at us!

Elwyn: Well, my formal outfit is a one-piece set so the robotic arm replaced the whole outfit.

Elwyn: The next morning we continue working on Soulmates while visiting different locations.

Before Cristal moved in, my parents had mentored her to Virtuoso rank.
But she doesn't know a single potion recipe or spell yet. She'll just learn a few.

Meanwhile, I'm over at Casters Alley buying us both wands and brooms.
Incidentally, I don't know a single potion recipe either, but I'll soon change that!

Returning home from the Magic HQ, we find that our home has been built.
It's late tonight, though, so I'll show you around tomorrow morning on Friday.
Promise!

Good morning! Welcome to our humble home.
This is the room which contains all of Mocha's "stuff."

It also has the stairs leading down to our micro home.
I've joined the Military career, so I've installed a listening device.
Cristal makes sure she can cook using only a corner counter.

I've managed to squeeze a computer desk and chair below the stairs.
Very handy for me, since my unique skill is Video Gaming.

Watcher made us a two-tile…what do I call this room?
It's not a bathroom, since there's no bath.
It's not a washroom, since there's no sink, either.
Even if the only place to "rest" is on the loo, do I call this room a restroom?

Anywaaaaay, Cristal tries the room out and both the toilet and shower work just fine.

Today's my first day of work, which starts at 7  a.m.
But at 6 a.m., I get a new daily task to "Spar."
Cristal's the only one around but I don't feel right sparring with my very pregnant wife.

I'm pretty sure I'll earn a promotion today, even without sparring before work!

Saturday morning, Cristal goes into labor halfway through my kava party.
She never did finish preparing that group meal!
I bring the party to a close and we rush home so Cristal can give birth.

We are very pleased to introduce our son, Marlon Pries.

There's a man standing on the sidewalk with fruitcake, so this must be the Welcome Wagon.
Watcher has warned me about the StrangerVille Welcome Wagon.
Our front gate is locked to everyone except the household. Hah!

Sunday, Week 55

I was a bit worried about marrying Cristal because she's non-committal.
Besides keeping me waiting at the altar for hours, though, she's been amazing!

Cristal's a lazy sim. I guess that's why she's put on a little weight lately.
Maybe she's better off not wearing those overalls?

I've been doing odd jobs most of the weekend, but Cristal completes Nerd Brain on Sunday.
She gives our Murphy Bed an insta-upgrade, so we won't be sleeping in that tent anymore!
Oh, and she also became friends with Mocha today. Mocha's supremely happy about that!

On Monday morning, I max my unique skill a little while before work.

When I return home from work on Monday, I bear both good news and bad news.
The good news: I earn my Level 6 promotion and enter the Covert Operator branch.
The bad news: Its career uniform is a one-piece outfit, so I'll be going to work in my briefs.  *sighs heavily

By the way, our son Marlon aged up this morning. Can you spot him amidst the unwelcome Welcome Wagon?
He had to wait until I got home from work for his make-over.

This Welcome Wagon arrived at our house two days ago on the day of Marlon's birth.
Can anyone teach me me how to get rid of them?

Watcher's Comments
*Robo Arm: It's official. Elwyn is stuck with his robotic arm for the rest of this dynasty, since he was unable to remove it while living with his parents.
Plus, he had to empty his personal inventory when moving out, thus leaving his robotic arm behind.
@sdhoey  I checked EA Answers HQ about the robotic arm, and I am not the only one whose sim can't remove their robotic arm. LOL!
*StrangerVille Welcome Wagon: How do I get those infected sims off my lot?
Do I need to let them into the house so they can put bizarre fruit into my (upgraded) fridge, followed by the men-in-black who will confiscate said fridge?
I guess I could move the upgraded fridge into my inventory and temporarily place a new one there. I don't have time for the StrangerVille Mystery in this challenge! Grrrrr!

Wow, this is definitely seeming like your glitched generation!  "Happy Birthday" sung at the wedding, no ability to remove the robotic arm, a welcome wagon that won't leave...poor Cristal and Mocha!  Oh, and Elwyn too, I guess  ;=)
For the robotic arm, you should at least be able to change the outfits for his full outfits to swap into things with pants.  Would putting a fridge on the lot just outside the door to the house fix things?  They could put weird fruit in it and then leave, maybe?  Of they could just be there as a running joke throughout this final generation  ;=)  So glad that Cristal decided to have a baby after all.  Can't wait to see young Marlon grow into those glorious genetics!
In short, despite the glitches, and perhaps even because of them, really enjoying this and can't wait for more!

I love your shot of the unwelcome Welcome Wagon. Pippin's suggestion about the fridge sounds good. Marlon is a real cutie!

Oh, two fabulous solutions, @PeregrineTook !
I will immediately place a second, accessible fridge on the lot. I guess Elwyn could exploit their presence by becoming good friends with them? (Probably a bad idea....)
And I will also switch Elwyn's formal outfit from a tux to separates. Sadly, the career outfit is beyond my control.

I love your shot of the unwelcome Welcome Wagon. Pippin's suggestion about the fridge sounds good. Marlon is a real cutie!
@MarianT
It was a big surprise that the Welcome Wagon hasn't left the lot for 2.5 days now.
I shall try placing a second fridge above ground, although I also added 3 empty garden planters which they've ignored. As for Marlon, the new toddler hairstyles are great!

the house is so great, and entirely appropriate for StrangerVille. The welcome wagon terrifies me, am glad the family are locked up safe
Thank you for your nice words about the house! I knew starting out that this dynasty would end in StrangerVille, so there's a lot of time to plan! :)
I could have started in StrangerVille but, in this challenge, my sims are only allowed (my personal rule) to visit towns that were previously or are currently inhabited by dynasty households.
As you might imagine, StrangerVille with its lack of community lots does not make a very productive town for a founder.
Thanks for reading!

Power of 10 - 10.51: Unwelcoming the Welcome Wagon (15 Feb update)

10.51: Unwelcoming the Welcome Wagon

Monday, Week 55

Cristal: Heyo! You remember me, of course.
I'm The Last Spouse as well as the lazy non-committal insider Mother of Marlon.

We seem to have settled into life here n StrangerVille after the first five days.
I look after Marlon, Mocha, and the garden.
My exotic Elwyn takes care of everything else.

My father-in-law Claude visits us often these days.
Marlon adores him and Elwyn's been consulting him about expanding our home.

Thanks to Papa Claude, we no longer live in a modified man cave.
Our underground space is smaller now but Elwyn has "A Room of His Own."

I'm grateful that most of our living space is above ground.
Did you notice that Marlon's the ONLY heir in this dynasty with no siblings?

We might just stay in our Tiny House for the rest of our virtual lives!

As for that unwelcome Welcome Wagon, their event just triggered.
When Elwyn sets our new trailer's door as the front door, the Welcome Wagon music begins.
He quickly locks the door for everyone except our household.
Ain't nobody got time for those weirdos!

By noon of the next day (Tuesday), Elwyn makes his four remaining good friends.
There's no longer a timer showing for the Welcome Wagon event.
Still, the weirdos remain standing on our mini-porch.
They've ignored our second fridge and extra garden planters in the yard.

Elwin doesn't work until 6 pm this evening, so we visit Papa Claude's house.
His two younger siblings are toddlers now, so….

Toddler Play Date!
Meet Kristopher (left) and his sister Justina (right).

At this age, our Marlon and his Uncle Kristopher look like brothers!

Elwyn leaves for work from the park, so I head home with Maron and our gold-medal swag.
Guess what? That pesky Welcome Wagon is gone!

Since Elwyn works nights, he throws his parties during the day.
Good thing Elwyn's such a talented party host!
Oh yeah, I have one more "role" in our household.
During parties, I tell the jokes while Elwyn does everything else.

Elwyn had always planned to craft a new robo-arm after moving to StrangerVille.
So he'd given me his first one while he was living in Magnolia Promenade.
Oh. Is that why he could never remove it?
Checking my personal inventory, I find his robo-arm and return it to him.

With his robo-arm in his inventory, he can click on it to "Remove robo-arm." Huh.
Next, he gets started making a new one…to keep things fair.

After he equips his new robo-arm, I confess that I tried equipping his first one.
Nope, only a robo-arm's creator can equip it. Right!

Anyway, my beloved is no longer sharing his briefs-clad body with the simverse.
Still, all that was way more trouble than it was worth!
I wish I'd noticed his robo-arm in my inventory sooner…

Whatever Marlon and Mocha are discussing, it can't be good.

Elwyn's off on Thursday and Marlon maxes all his skills early that morning.

We're hiring a nanny for Marlon so Elwyn can start partying for real.
First, a Dinner Party at home followed by an Incognito Party at Salty Paws Saloon.

The Sand Bar is where Elwyn hosts his seventh gold-medal party.
It's also where he completes the requirement for spending 2+ hours each at 10 community lots.

As you know, I am a lazy sim who gets tense from doing too many chores.
While carving a pumpkin for a Spooky Party, I notice that I don't need to be doing the carving.
Next time, I'm asking one of the guests to carve "my" pumpkin.

Friday night, while Elwyn's at work, his grandparents stop by for a visit.
Of course, they travel here from Glimmerbrook on their bichaels.
I remember Papa Claude saying that his parents own super-expensive Rocket Brooms.

Today's Saturday and Elwyn finally started putting together his collection since last night.
Of course, he places his woodworking table underground, where he feels "safe and secure."
But now that he can remove his robo-arm, he never remembers to equip it.

Elwyn works nights, so I decide to help with his collection, too.

By the way, don't you think I'm looking fabulous these days?
Honestly, I've never been so fit in my life!

I've been spending a little time each day jogging and doing yoga.
Do I gain weight easier because I'm a lazy sim?
Is there a way for me to stay slim without getting any more muscular?
To celebrate the new me, I got rid of my tattoo as well.

Sunday, Week 56

As I mentioned earlier, Elwyn has many more demands on his time than I do.
But he always tries to make time for his family, which includes Mocha.

Look at my handsome boys!

My erratic Elwyn brings home his Level 9 promotion tonight.
Wow, he might be able to max his career by Wednesday!

Elwyn and I get so caught up in crafting camping mascots, we forget Marlon's birthday.
His birthday notice has arrived, so let the party begin!

Marlon's birthday party just barely earns a gold medal.
Like I said, I tell my two jokes and Elwyn does the rest!

But what matters here is Marlon. Isn't he adorable?

Coming next: The finale, no doubt about it

Elwyn's requirements: 7/10
📌 1. Unique career: Covert Operator 9
✔️ 2. Unique skill: Video Gaming 10
✔️ 3. Earned 10k satisfaction points: yes
✔️ 4. Earned $10,000: yes
✔️ 5. 10/10 good friends (2/2 non-human)
✔️ 6. 10/10 odd jobs
📌 7. 9/10 parties
✔️ 8. 10/10 emotional whims
✔️ 9. 10/10 community lots for min. 2 hrs each
📌10. 8/10-item collection

Watcher's Remarks
*Spooky Party: I had never noticed that "Request a Carved Pumpkin" social!
You know Elwyn's last party will be a Spooky one so Cristal can test it.
*Robotic Arm: Ugh. That whole bit with the robo-arm and Elwyn running around in his briefs was extremely dodgy!
Don't be an idiot like me. If your heir has a robo-arm equipped, be sure to remove it before emptying their inventory and splitting the household.
(Can you tell I haven't played Discover University much? LOL!)
In my case, I couldn't figure out how to remove the darn thing before moving Elwyn out,  so I had Elwyn gift the robo-arm in his inventory to Cristal.
*Career outfits: I was wrong. CAS must have changed while I wasn't playing.
While giving Marlon his makeover, I noticed that there's now a Career option under the Style category.
I didn't try this (because i was in the middle of dressing Marlon), but I imagine I could have changed Elwyn's career suit to separates. *sighs

Cristal narrating things was a rather delightful delivery of the lazy Sim bragging about all three contributions she makes while the heir slaves away  :=)
I'm glad you figured out the robo-arm thing!  Cristal had the stand for it the whole time and was too lazy to remember, I guess  ;=)
Speaking of Cristal, as I've been doing this whole time, she is looking fantastic!!!
Looking forward to seeing you triumphantly storm across the finish line!!

@reggikko
Sooo close now!
I'd thought Elwyn was the best-looking sim in my dynasty but Marlon might beat him. :)
Now you don't have to repeat my stupid robo-arm mistake. And after all that, he hasn't worn it once (yet) while woodworking.
Thanks for letting me know about the lazy sim's inclination to gain weight. I didn't notice it at first because Cristal was pregnant, haha.

Cristal is incensed that you forgot her fourth household contribution: at every party, she's the one who completes the "Tell jokes (0/2)" task.
I've tried but she's never succeeded in making the toast, lol.
I'm also surprised at how quickly Cristal shaped up! In retrospect, I wish I'd taken a better "before" screenshot.  ;D
She suddenly seemed to look older then I realized that her overalls were hiding the weight gain...

Power of 10 - This Is "The End" (16 February update)
« Reply #324 on: February 17, 2020, 01:14:21 AM »
10.52: This Is "The End"

Tuesday, Week 56

Elwyn: Things start coming together pretty quickly.
On Wednesday at 2 am, I bring home my final Covert Operator promotion.

I consider throwing a party to celebrate but, instead, Mocha and I take a quick trip to Brindleton Bay.
He aged Tuesday afternoon and needs one final Age-Down Treat from the vet clinic.

Mocha is the oldest living member of our dynasty!
He first joined us in Week 25 during the fifth generation!
As of today, he is 216 days old! He's ancient!

Thursday morning, I start a Spooky Party.
Naturally, we don't bother carving the pumpkins ourselves.
I request Mom and Cristal requests my brother Jethro to carve them.

Now that Cristal's free she hogs the bar, so the mixologist I hired can't mix drinks.
Meanwhile, Cristal won't tend the bar herself. *sighs
Unfortunately, Cristal can't be trusted to "free range."

I think perhaps she'd do well to carve a pumpkin after all.
You know, "idle hands are the devil's workshop" and all that.
But she ends up distracting my brother Jethro who abandons his unfinished pumpkin.

If you want to get something done, you've got to do it yourself!
After Cristal finishes her pumpkin, I sense her standing behind me smirking.
I barely complete carving the second pumpkin in time!

Anyway, there you go. I, Elwyn the last heir, hosted 10 gold-medal parties!

All that's left now is to finish off my collection of camping mascot sculptures.
As I'm heading downstairs, I notice that Mocha is sick.
(Why didn't I buy a Wellness treat last night?)
I decide to buy an exam table and treat Mocha's illness myself.

Mocha: You? Treat me? Using your non-existent Vet skill? *scoffs

Elwyn: O ye of little faith!
By the time I diagnose your 4th symptom, my Vet skill has soared to Level 5.
Now, close your eyes while I apply this anti-fungal spray!

Mocha: Wow, I can't believe you actually cured me!
Elwyn (internally): You and me both, buddy.  You and me both!

You're probably wondering why my collection's taking so long, right?
It seems like the more I craft, the lower their value drops.
I already have 10+ camping mascots.
I'm gonna craft for 3 more hours then I'll accept whatever I've got.

All righty. My collection is finally done, which means I've finished all of my requirements.
This dynasty is officially over!

Thank you, friends, for your company and support!

Well done! Elwyn got those requirements done in no time, and with almost no help. I’d feel sorry for him, but he’s known Cristal so long that he ought to have known what he was getting into. Him rushing to complete the last pumpkin was so funny!

Now that you’ve finished, may I ask how much you planned from the beginning? Did you know each heir’s unique skill and career?

You are extremely good at avoiding unnecessary skilling and other time-consumers while playing your P10, which makes your progress very fast.
With enough free time, I imagine you could be done in another 2 weeks or so.   2.5 weeks for 3 generations?   ;)
And The Triumphant Pankcakes tournament challenge providing added incentive?

@Meg
Elwyn was the only heir with an only child, too, so--in addition to all the adult parties--he also barely earned gold for the toddler play date.
Cristal was not helpful at parties but her gardening and childcare meant that Elwyn could focus on his requirements. Honestly, she was quite a funny, unpredictable sim to play.

As for planning, I had a personal rule of only visiting worlds where the current or previous dynasty households lived (as I mentioned recently, I think), with an exception for Sulani.
So I started with my favorite world, Oasis Springs, then initially planned the sequence of worlds the heirs would move, ending with Strangerville, based on what amenities/community lots each world offered.
That's why the second generation moved to San Myshuno for the festivals, Art Gallery, and produce stall.
I pushed Sulani/Glimmerbrook toward the end because I was unfamiliar with Island Living/Realm of Magic gameplay.
Then, I decided on collections with thought to what each world offered or the lot size available.
Finally, I chose the career + unique skill combo based mostly on that generation's collection.
If a world didn't suggest a unique collection, then I chose a career/skill combo that seemed to make sense for that heir's "personality/traits."
Haha, that was probably way more detail than you'd wanted.  But, there it is.  All planned out using LenaLJ's spreadsheet from the start.

Wow, excitement right to the end!  Cristal sabotaging the party, Mocha's unexpected illness...craziness!  Still, way better than game glitching nonsense and such that could have caused more crippling drama!

@PeregrineTook

I just had to check how that "Request a carved pumpkin" social worked for a Spooky Party and quickly learned that it didn't, at least for my sims.
Once a guest abandons their unfinished pumpkin, my hosts cannot ask them to finish it, haha. And a host cannot resume carving another sim's unfinished pumpkin, either.
I had the child sim running around doing some of the other party tasks (Request Party Treat 0/2 and Perform Mischief social 0/3).
I'd always waited until my heir's twins aged up to teens and had them carve the pumpkins. Still the easiest route, in my book!

Of course, Mocha has to age up and get sick right before the challenge ends.
But the Tiny House offers an insane skilling boost! Elwyn got to Vet 5 from treating Mocha just once!
But I'd say some skills are boosted more by a Micro/Tiny House than others. Elwyn took much longer than 2 sim-hours to reach Video Gaming 5.
Borrow away, Pippin. Sharing is caring, right?  Which reminds me that I need to finish my Sharebears Legacy.

For my next challenge, I'll be jumping on @reggikko 's bandwagon, so whatever she does next, that's what I'll be doing.  ;D
