How was your first encounter with The Sims franchise?

How could I have gone from absolutely hating the first Sims game to being so totally addicted to Sims3 it is basically my only topic of conversation?  Well, that and my totally awesome squeakyclean, (great-grandaughter's name here), who will be sixteen tomorrow and .........drum roll.......gets the pc I can only dream of having for her birthday!  Good thing I have all the Sims3 Ep and Sp's!  Now once again we can play together.

Oh wow I can't even remember when I got sims 1, I was pretty young though, like maybe 5th/6th grade? Maybe even before that, I liked it but eventually got bored.  Probably in about 6th grade I went over to my friend's house and we played sims 2 , and I really liked it!  I eventually got sims 2 but when I switched from a PC to a mac I could no longer play:(  Sometime last year I got sims 3 for mac and have been happily playing again ever since

^o^ This is my first post and it seemed like a fitting thread to start in.

I've been playing ever since The Sims first came out and I was much younger.   ^^;

Addicted ever since then to building and creating long lasting family lines. 

I don't remember much about when I first picked up the game, but I distinctly remember when I experienced the death of my very first Sim ever. 

He was cornered by a fire and burned to death.  T^T  I cried because no matter what I did I couldn't save him.

Now I thoroughly and excitedly explore every means of death.

I remember getting a computer years ago and one of the Sims games came with it.  I never did install it because I just thought it wasn't going to be something I would like.  About 4 years or so a good friend of mine decided he wanted to get an iMac and we have never had Mac's only PC's. 
Well when he got his iMac he came by my work with a new iMAc for me!  What a surprise!  When the Sims 3 came out he purchased it for us.  I told him I probably will never play it. He called,  told me to install it, I did.  Needless to say I couldn't believe how many times my Sim had to use the bathroom, shower and eat! I thought it was just ridiculous, didn't really care for it and asked if this is all they do. He explained and before you know it I was HOOKED!
Now every time there is something new for the Sims coming out he always pre orders for us. I just pre ordered Pets for myself and one for him and looking forward to many more.  We have every EP and SP and I'm sure we'll get everyone that comes out!  I love it!
