Notes on Origin

You must use Origin to open and play Sims 4 as well as many other Origin games. You will need to install and be logged into Origin on each computer you use in order to be able to play most Origin games. **Only one computer can be logged into Origin at a time.**

You can use Origin offline (no internet access) by log into Origin using the username and password used to purchase the game. Go to My Games Library to find your games. Or you can play in offline mode by clicking on the word Origin in the menu in the upper left, and select Go Offline.

Origin isn't set up to share games in-between accounts. - You can log into Origin using a different account than the one you used to purchased Sims 4 with, but you will not have access to your Sims 4 game or other Origin games you purchased with your other account.

The Origin client updates do not add anything to the Sims game. It is an update for the Origin application which is different than a game patches/updates for Sims 4 (which often does add new features and changes etc).

It's a good idea to keep the Origin client up to date, so you can keep playing your Origin games with full online capabilities. Even if you don't play online, keeping Origin up to date ensures you have access to your games.

**********

If you have problems with Origin, it is recommended to uninstall/reinstall Origin. [This will not mess up the installed games, as they are installed in separate folders.]

However, this may not work well if your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Origin.

Origin Minimum Requirements:
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or later
1ghz Processor · 512mb of System Memory
128 MB of Video RAM
https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/store/download

How to find my computer information? (Click Here)

The above specs are just for running Origin. This doesn't take into consideration the games you're trying to run and play on the computer. Which require their own minimum specs.

When you try to run a game on a pc with minimum specs or have graphics that is under minimum specs, it may load the game but won't play the game that well and you will certainly run into graphic issues, lag and crashing.

Also please keep in mind the more updates EA/Origin releases for both the Origin client and game the more neither are going to work on older/lower end pcs.

Repairing Any Game Installed via the Origin Client

Repairing Any Game Installed via the Origin Client

Right Click on a game and select Repair Game.

When repairing any game you have via Origin, It only affects the files for the actual game. It doesn't make any changes to save game files. If you have any mods in the game, you may need to remove those first before running the repair tool.

Essentially, it compares your installed game files with the files on the Origin server and re-downloads any files that are different. It will also repair registry entries for the game if any have been altered or erased.

It's recommended to uninstall and reinstall the Origin Client. Check to make sure you've got the latest version:

----> https://www.origin.com/en-us/download

If this doesn't help, run a program like Ccleaner and it's registry cleaner. And try installing it again.

Ccleaner - Standard Edition is Free

My Origin Games Are Missing?!
« Reply #12 on: October 19, 2015, 03:14:25 PM »
My Origin Games Are Missing

This a common problem that Origin game players have been having since early Sept 2015.

Log into Origin, and click on the Games Library Tab, in this tab you should find all your installed Origin games. Click any game and look for the Extra Content button. (It's under the Play Button) to show what content you have for said game and let you download any of it's content.

Origin's Default Settings Click here to learn how to change them.

** EA changed how game content shows up in the Origin Client (in Sept.2015). You can now find them in a different place, just right-click the respective game tile under "Games Library" and choose " Show Game Details".

Check out this thread here for a detailed visual guide:
http://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin/Missing-expansions-Be-sure-to-check-here/td-p/4438200

If you are still having problems finding your Origin games or are having more account issues, it may be best to contact EA's Customer Service / Use EA Help (How-To)  As we cannot help with lost games and/or Origin Account problems. EA's CS can help better with that. **You will need to verify your account information.

« Reply #15 on: January 02, 2016, 06:53:13 PM »
Uninstall/Reinstall Origin

** Uninstalling and reinstalling Origin will not hurt installed games, saved games or mods. It is safe to do this as Origin is installed in a different folder. However, if you're unsure back your Sims 4 folder to the desktop or a USB key for safe keeping.

1. Manually uninstall Origin.
Go to Control Panel > Uninstall a Program > Origin. Right-click Origin and select uninstall.

Origin Installed but game not running Error

Not sure why this happens, but an easy fix is to turn off Origin in-game.

1. Login to Origin, go to the Origin Menu - (in the upper left hand corner of the Origin client.)
2. Select Application Settings > Origin In-Game tab
3. Uncheck or turn Off - Enable Origin In Game.

This works for all games that are installed via Origin.

Turn off Ads In Origin and In-Game
« Reply #17 on: April 21, 2016, 07:01:28 PM »
Turn off Ads In Origin and In-Game

There are not ads in the actual game itself. What you're seeing are two linked photos. These can't be turned off.
First photo - New Experiences linked photo takes you to Amazon.com where you can purchase the game code for the game.
2nd Photo has a link to take you to TheSims.com and the gives a tip on accessing the map. - Travel between neighborhoods and worlds by pressing M or using your Sim's phone

However, Origin does advertise game offers via the Origin client that you can disable.

*This option is not in the new Origin 10 client*
To do this, Go up to the Origin Menu. (Upper left corner of the Origin Client.) Select Application Settings > Advanced. Scroll down to where you can see Featured Today and Checkmark Hide Featured Today when first opening Origin. - This will disable these offers.

If you have Online Features Access turned on (checked) you may have an ad for the game in the lower left-hand corner of your screen in the Main Menu of Sims 4.

To turn this off uncheck Online Features Access. Go to Options > Game Options > Other > Uncheck Online Features Access.

This will turn off the ad that is on the main menu. The other two picture boxes are about game information and can not be turned off unfortunately.

Note If you uncheck this feature, you will not have access to the online gallery and other online features.

Origin is already running (when it's not)

Log out of Origin. *If exiting Origin isn't working, open Task manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) search for a file called ts4.exe or Origin. Click on it and select End Task

What may have happened is the program may have not closed properly. So it needs to be closed manually.

Completely shut down the computer and restart it to see if that helps.

Turn Off Origin/Game Updates
« Reply #19 on: January 29, 2017, 09:37:50 PM »
Turn Off Origin/Game Updates

Open Origin, go to Origin > Application Settings

Under Client Updates it has a couple features to turn off:

Automatic Game Updates
Automatically Update Origin

Under Start-Up Options turn off:

Automatically Start Origin
Origin Helper Service

Turning these features off will stop Origin from asking to update your games,  automatically updating itself and stop it from automatically starting when starting Windows.

It will make it to where you will need to manually install game and Origin updates.

Can't login to my Origin account
« Reply #20 on: February 18, 2017, 04:17:40 PM »
Can't login to my Origin account

It is suggested to create a temporary account to contact customer service with. When talking to someone at EA CS. You will have to verify your account. This means give them your name, email address, password, etc. With that information, they can help you with your account issues. Also, let them know of your temporary account, so they can merge it with your main account. - You may need to verify the temporary account as well.

This is if changing password; clearing browser cache using a different browser or uninstalling/reinstalling Origin isn't helping.

Play Offline In Origin
« Reply #21 on: May 17, 2017, 05:01:54 PM »
Play Offline In Origin

To play in offline mode, you will need to log into Origin once after installing the game using the username and password used to purchased the game. After doing this you should be able to play in offline mode at any time you choose. -- This is to verify the account and game files.

You need to be logged into your Origin account, regardless if you want to play online or offline.

Please Note: Each time you open Origin while offline you will need to sign-in to be able to play games. You may need to occasionally connect Origin to the internet to verify your account.

Origin Crashing, While Trying to Login Offline or just won't allow play offline, Try uninstalling Origin and reinstalling it. You may need to login once before going offline due to reinstalling it. Once you do that, try logging in again offline.

If you're still having problems Logging into Origin offline and/or playing the game offline, please post in the thread linked below:
