I got the game yesterday, and created a Da Vinci character - Testy McTestALot (it's the name I traditionally give my first character after installing a new EP).

The shop worked fine for the artist career.  Then I switched to sculpture.  The first day of sculpting I put everything she'd made into the family inventory, went down to the store and consigned them.  One or two of the last paintings still at the store sold, but none of the sculptures sold.

After 3 or 4 days of nothing selling I decided to unconsign the items and sell them from the family inventory instead, to get her career levels moving.  When I unconsigned, all the non-sculpture items she'd made (chair, sink, etc) went to the family inventory and could be sold, but the statues went to Testy's personal inventory and couldn't be sold, they couldn't be taken out of inventory, I couldn't do anything with them except consign them again.  So I consigned them again, just to keep her inventory clear.

When I eventually finished with sculpting (including hitting level 10 of the career) and moved on to inventing, those statues still hadn't sold, and still showed as having 5 days left on consignment.  Nothing from the inventing career sold either, but at least there was no family inventory/personal inventory issues to worry about with those.

It seems that it was switching to consigning items from the family inventory (i.e. the sculptures) that broke the consignment store for Testy.

How long did it take for EA to come out with a patch after WA was released?

Next problem solved at another mod site (read about it at the official forums, just like to give proper vague credit):

If you are unable to consign, have NOT traveled, and have consigned in the past, try Canceling your consignments.

Quote
I experienced this as well, but I think I found the reason why. Try selecting "Cancel consignments" instead of buy. You should find that your earlier items are at minus days. Ideally the items would be sent to you if they haven't been sold in 5 days, but that doesn't work so the game starts counting down instead and this is what prevents the buy window from opening.

Wow, I read something USEFUL on the official forums!

Actually, I had already mentioned this worked for me at the top of p.2 of this thread.

I'm running into problems finishing the consignment skill challenge of reaching impressive reputation.
Taken directly from my skill journal:

Challenges
Consignment Store Reputation
Gain an impressive reputation for selling items at the Consignment Store.

Statistics
Reputation: Impressive

However, the challenge is greyed out as if I have not yet completed it  ???  I've made over $400,000 there and if you ask me that's rather impressive lol.

Yeah, Tom, I don't know what's up with that Skill Challenge but you're not alone. My da Vinci guy never got that either. I'm pretty sure he didn't have $400k go through the store, but that would be a ridiculous requirement anyway. Way too high. I wonder if it has anything to do with relationship to the clerks? I kind of wondered that anyway as I was playing that guy and was thinking maybe it would have an effect on volume of stuff moved out and maybe price. But, I never did test it.

The clerk was my only social contact, paint - invent - sculpt - sell - chat, and they eventually were besties but I don't even know how I'd track an increase of sales.  Now I can't even buy from the store or list new items.

Have you tried the cancel consignments trick yet? I really hope EA fixes the whole consignment store stuff quick because it would be a natural thing for me to include it in the upcoming da Vinci Challenge.

Okay, I have no clue what happened! The day I got Ambitions, I started a new family in Twinbrook just to check it out, but I really like Sunset Valley because I know everyone there so I went back to it. In Twinbrook the store was fine then the other day I was playing with a family and noticed their stuff had stopped selling. Well, I had been doing some crazy stuff with them and figured that was why. Tonight I started a brand new man, Painter McPainty. He is single and I have not done anything out of the ordinary with him. He joined the painter career and at first it was fine. He sold $41,000 at the consignment store. Than his stuff stopped selling. I canceled the consignment, re-consigned them and waited. At 5:00 nothing happened. So the next day I went back, un-consigned everything again and went home. Waited 2 days, added another consignment store(I was thinking it was broke?) went back and consigned everything, went home. 5:00 came and still nothing! That's when I paused it and came here hoping someone could help? His needs are static, but I have not done anything with him but paint! What is going on?

What the heck!  I had a bunch of stuff I had consigned, including valuable statues and things and suddenly one day I get the message that "The Steel family has moved to another town.  Hope you didn't need any money!"  Since Christopher Steel worked at the consignment shop in Sunset Valley, obviously all of my items were lost with no simoleons sent to my family.  I've consigned a few more items with the new consignment specialist, but nothing has sold since.

sims96fan what a slap in the face, and what poor design that your consignments are tied to an npc's inventory instead of a fixed location inventory!

I finally got my last consignment challenge done, not sure when I accomplished it but it happened sometime after I canceled and resold all my items, breached the $500,000 sold mark, restarted my computer and rekindled my friendship with the sales agent.  Who knows  ::)

All of your stuff went with Christopher Steel? Is there a way to check on items you have consigned?

Wow, I think I would be a little on the angry side too.  That is just crazy.  I have had pretty good luck with the consignment shop and now that I just said that, that will change. ::)  I still use buy mode for my inventions and sculptures though, just to be on the safe side.

All of the stuff went with Christopher Steel.  The next day, I went to the consignment shop and Sam Bolden was working there, but there was no option to cancel consignments or anything.  I just had to consign new things and pretend the others were lost to the ether.  How annoying.

By the way, when it says 3 things sold in a day, that's not the case that only 3 things sold.  If you look at the total amount, it's usually more than 3 things, and they just give you a highlight list of the top 3 items.
