The Sims 4 Engineering Career
Guide: Become a Computer or Mechanical Engineer in Discover University

You can choose between Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering after Rank 6 of this Career. Learn the benefits of each below!
Career Quick Links
Among the new Careers in Discover University, Engineer is probably most exciting as it has actual rewards - the ability to craft either Computer Glasses or an ExoMech Suit based on whether you choose the Computer Engineer or Mechanical Engineering branch of this career.

Getting Started
This is a Work from Home career, so you can get a lot done without ever going to work. I recommend it, as work from home should see you steadily building up your Sim's skills in robotics and possibly programming. This is Career works long enough hours throughout the early phases with 8-9 hour shifts the entire time..
Early Levels

Engineers unlock a few gadgets, but all must be crafted at the Robotics Workstation. They are not just given to you, more the blueprints to them.
The early levels of this career have you steadily working on Robotics while leveling up handiness and programming back and forth until they hit level 3 each. From there, you'll choose between the two branches. Realize that working on Robotics can result in death if you get zapped and go in for another try. Being focused doesn't reduce the odds of being zapped. You will get zapped less when tinkering (or reading a book) than actually crafting something, so keep that in mind if you don't want to be locked out.
The experimental motivators you get should be related to the Utili-Bots. I don't think that they do much for you at all but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Computer Engineer Branch

Computer glasses allow you to scan other Sims' traits and browse the web on the go. This is a reward for the Computer Engineer in The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack.
Computer Engineers continue to learn Robotics, but have more an emphasis on the Programming side of things than the Mechanical Engineer. This branch offers the Computer Glasses. They unlock at rank 9, but realize you have to craft them yourself. When worn, the computer glasses give you the ability to check social media, browse the web, and minor computing tasks - not write novels or program. However, their ability to browse web does mean you can use the good emotional manipulation abilities from computers any time, anywhere. Use browse art to get inspired or browse simpedia to get focused, for example.
Another thing they do, is allow you to scan a Sim's mood, traits, and learn about them that way. It's not particularly powerful given the game's flat traits, but it's good to know regardless.
Computer Engineering Career
Rank | Job | Wages | Schedule | $/Day | Daily Task & Promotion Requirements | Reward for Promotion |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
7 | Constructor of Computers | $145/hour | Sun-Tue, Fri-Sat 10AM-7PM | $1,305 | Construct Computer Chip, Reach Level 7 Robotics, Level 4 Programming | $925, Collect Qualitative Feedback, Design New Computer Hardware, Guest Speak at Computer Engineering Class, 5 Mechanisms, 3 Computer Chips, 10 Robotics Salvage |
8 | Processor of Processors | $220/hour | Mon-Tue, Fri-Sat 10AM-6PM | $1,760 | Construct Computer Chip, Reach Level 8 Robotics, Level 5 Programming | $2,200, 10 Electrical Upgrade Parts |
9 | Computer Connoisseur | $285/hour | Tue-Wed, Fri-Sat 12PM-7PM | $1,995 | Construct Computer Chip, Reach Level 9 Robotics, Level 6 Programming | $2,275, Computer Glasses |
10 | PC Prodigy | $375/hour | Tue-Wed, Fri-Sat 1PM-7PM | $2,250 | Construct Computer Chip, Reach Level 10 Robotics, Level 7 Programming | $3,125, Framed Patent |
Mechanical Engineering Branch

Engineers unlock the Exomech Suit and Helmet. I honestly prefer the robotic arm with computer glasses, but they do have their own unique benefits.
The Mechanical Engineer unlocks not one, but two rewards: The ExoMech Suit comes at level 8, the ExoMech Helmet at level 9. The helmet gives you a permanent focused boost while worn, and gives a +1 skill level in logic and robotics hidden modifier (improving quality etc.) with a 20% boost to logic and robotics skill gains as well.
The ExoMech Suit provides a boost to Fitness and Handiness (20% skill gains) via the Bionic Body buff. This is perhaps a bit weak, given it prevents you using the Mechanical Arm cybernetics that Robotics unlocks, and that gives 1.25x skill gains to around four skills and increases the rate you produce craftable objects. So use the arm and helmet together perhaps if you go this route for more bonuses overall if you do not want the fitness skill gains.

I see a lot of potential in this career. With a "discover personality" pack or something like that, it could really shine.
Hi, how to construct mechanism in mechanical engineering careeer? I didnt found it in computer nor robotic workshop? Thx
It's likely you already discovered this, but construct mechanism unlocks at level 2 of robotics and will require some of the robotics scrap parts that are either bought at the computer under upgrade parts or given by tinkering with robotics.
Can anyone know how can I remove the robotic glasses from a Sim with no robotic abilty? I triedanything and can't remove them. :( Thanks
